Soybean protein fibre
Soybean Fibre: Soybean protein fibre is part of "sustainable clothing", where sustainable raw materials or waste are used to produce textile products - Soybean Protein Fibre does not add any extra burden on mother nature.
Soybean protein fibre is the only renewable botanic protein fibre we can touch today. It is made from renewable and biodegradable natural resources - the leftovers of non-genetically modified soybeans. No pollutants are used in its manufacture and the residual waste after production is biodegradable and can be used as fertilizer.
From Soy to Fibre: All knowledge on handling, dyeing and manufacturing of Soybean Protein Fibre is done through cutting edge technology based in China. It was researched and developed through 10 years by its inventor Mr. Li Guanqi who was awarded with the Patent Gold Medal by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2003.
Briefly, the process consists in the following: 1. Proteins are extracted from the leftover materials of tofu or soymilk production. 2. Protein liquids are forced through a device resembling a showerhead, called spinneret, to make liquid soy. 3. Liquid soy is solidified to make soybean protein fibre.
Benefits of Soy: Soybean protein fibre is a unique green fibre and has qualities of superiority over other conventional fibres: - Known also as "vegetable cashmere" or "soy silk", Soybean fibre is soft, smooth and lightweight. Its outstanding comfort feels as a second skin for baby. - It has high anti-ultraviolet, antistatic and antibacterial properties that resist coli bacillus, staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. - This green fibre is thermo-regulating - has the same moisture absorption than cotton but its moisture transmission is greater than regular cotton, keeping baby dry and at right temperature. Soybean protein fibre also has superior warmth retention that is comparable to wool. - It is a unique active fibre with 16 amino acids that have an exceptional function of activating the production of skin's own collagen.
Soy Fibre + Cotton: Babysoy uses soybean protein fibre blended with cotton which enhances the lustre, moisture-permeability, quick-dry ability and drape. In addition, soybean fibre is so soft that it needs a longer length fibre to build a structure for the super soft textile.
Babysoy uses long-staple cotton also known as Sea-Island cotton from Xinjiang, China. Xinjiang's environment and climate pattern is ideal for cotton production partly due to its scarcity of pests in the region, which keeps down pesticides usage.
Snaps, zippers and whitening agents: All snaps and zippers are made by world-renowned YKK and are nickel-free, making dressing-time safe and easy. Babysoy uses hydrogen peroxide which is a whitening agent that uses oxygen rather than chlorine.
Fairly Made: Babysoy works with artisans who are fairly-treated in a safe working environment. Babysoy employs full-time staff based overseas to monitor and oversee production. Unannounced visits to our contractor's facilities are performed at least 4 times a year to ensure that all local labour laws are obeyed and followed.
